Responsibilities of the Office

Discernment

To assist the Cardinal-Archbishop and the Archdiocese in discerning its evangelizing potential,
To continually assess the spiritual needs of the Archdiocese through collaborative consultation with the Cardinal-Archbishop and the offices and agencies of the Pastoral Center, the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council, and the people and parishes of the Archdiocese.

To coordinate the implementation of Go and Make Disciples, A National Plan and Strategy for Catholic Evangelization in the United States,
To coordinate the implementation of Spreading the Holy Fire, A Plan and Study Guide for Catholics Evangelizing in the Archdiocese of Chicago,
To cultivate an active core of Catholics to serve as ministers of evangelization in their parishes, homes, neighborhoods, and workplaces, forming and training Catholic evangelizers,
To coordinate other evangelization programs such as National Evangelization Teams (NET), Landings, Catholics Returning Home, Faith Sharing Groups, etc.

To offer methods and material for calling all people to initial and ongoing conversion to Jesus Christ in full communion with the Church worldwide,
To serve as a central point of contact for individuals and groups who are seeking information or requesting sources pertaining to evangelization,
To coordinate goingforth.org, the official web-site for the Office for Evangelization,
To publish the newsletter of the Office for Evangelization.

To assist Archdiocesan departments and agencies with initiating or enhancing evangelization efforts and in particular in implementing the Archdiocesan Mandate of Spreading the Holy Fire, A Plan and Study Guide for Catholics Evangelizing in the Archdiocese of Chicago,
To assist the parishes with initiating and enhancing evangelization efforts and in particular in implementing the Parish Mandate of Spreading the Holy Fire, A Plan and Study Guide for Catholics Evangelizing in the Archdiocese of Chicago,
To assist all Catholics in becoming disciples of Jesus Christ in and through the Church and in particular in implementing the Personal Mandate of Spreading the Holy Fire, A Plan and Study Guide for Catholics Evangelizing in the Archdiocese of Chicago,
To instill a love for evangelization, making the parishes and institutions of the Archdiocese, and even the Archdiocese itself, a potent force for mission,
To invite all ministries in the Archdiocese to adopt an evangelizing perspective so that they all flow from and be directed to conversion to Jesus and loving communion with His Church.
